The Narragansett Water Pollution Control Association h= eld its Annual Awards Banquet on May 4th at the seaside Wharf Tavern in Warren, Rhode Island.  Erin Mosley, the NEWEA Vice-Presid= ent, attended the banquet.  She bro= ught greetings from NEWEA and gave a brief overview of the issues that were discussed at NEWEA’s long-term planning session.  She also re-presented the Alfred E. Peloquin Award to Chris Petrone of the Narragansett WWTF and the Operator of the Year Award to Daniel Lima of the Quonset Point WWTF.  She also congratulated the Narraga= nsett Bay Commission for receiving the first-ever NEWEA Wastewater Utility Manage= ment Award.  

 

Bernard Bishop, NWPCA’s highly popular President= , also recognized several individuals and wastewater treatment facilities for exemplary performance in 2006.  The James Marvelle Award for leadership excellence was presented to Dennis Colb= erg of the Quonset Point WWTF.  Al= fredo Diez of the NBC Bucklin Point WWTF received the Robert Markelewicz Maintena= nce Excellence Award and Andrew Bathgate of the Warwick WWTF received the Collections Systems Operator of the Year Award.  The treatment plants listed below = were recognized for the following performance awards:

Most Efficient Small WWTF= –        &= nbsp;  New Shoreham

Most Efficient Large WWTF= –        &= nbsp; South Kingstown

Most Efficient AWT WWTF -=            Smithfield

Most Improved Small WWTF = -        &= nbsp; Quonset Point

Most Improved Large WWTF = -        &= nbsp; East Providence

Most Improved AWT WWTF &#= 8211;         = N.B.C. – Bucklin Point

Small WWTF Safety Award &= #8211;         &= nbsp; Westerly

Large WWTF Safety Award -=         &= nbsp;  West Warwick &= nbsp;         

 

The Rhode Island Operations Challenge Team, “Fec= al Matters” fared very well in the New England regional competition held= in North Conway, New Hampshire.  Fecal Matters finished in second place behind the strong New Hampshi= re Sewer Snakes     &= nbsp;  team.  The RI team collected a first place trophy for the Collections System Event, a second place trophy in the Laboratory event and third place trophies in the Process Control Event and = the Safety Event.  In the Godwin P= ump Maintenance Event, they finished 12 hundredths of a second out of third pla= ce.  Congratulations to Fecal Matters t= eam members Brian Lavallee, Scott Goodinson, Donald Shurtleff, Robert Sheridan = and Coach Peter Eldridge.  After p= erforming well in New Hampshire, the team is prepa= ring diligently for a strong showing in the national competition in San Diego, California.

 

On June 12th, NWPCA held its annual Hot Dog= Roast at the Narragansett WWTF.  Att= endees feasted on hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, beans and all the fixings! O= nce again, the event was a big hit to all who attended.  Thanks to Doug Nettleton, Superint= endent of the Narragansett WWTF, who graciously hosted the event.

 

 

 

Two days later, NWPCA hosted it most successful ever A= nnual Golf Tournament at the Cranston Country Club.  There were 112 golfers who enjoyed= a great day of golf, food and drink.  All golfers were treated to coffee and breakfast pastry during registration.  Coolers filled = with soda and water were placed strategically throughout the golf course.  At the turn, golfers were able to = take advantage of a barbecue lunch.  After all rounds of golf were completed, participants were treated t= o a prime rib dinner.  Here is the listing of winners from the golf outing:

The next feature event on the NWPCA calendar is the An= nual Clam Bake and Vendor Exposition.  This popular event will be held at the Twelve Acres banquet facility= in Smithfield, Rhode Island, on September 7th.
